Make a Difference – Volunteer!
Retired and looking for something new to do? Do you have free time or maybe a special hobby or interest? Looking for a way to give back in the community? Volunteering your time and skills may be the answer.
Beyond the good you will do for others; you may also be surprised at the renewed sense of purpose you feel when you volunteer. There are health benefits too.
Research from the Corporation for National and Community Service, 2007 and Volunteering in America: 2007 State Trends report that the more we give in the form of volunteering the happier we feel. We receive social benefits, mental health benefits and benefits to our physical health, namely lower incidences of heart disease and decreased high blood pressure. Giving of yourself can also help prevent social isolation, loneliness and depression. In short, these studies also report the older volunteers experience greater health outcomes. Sharing your time and talent as an active volunteer can significantly improve the quality of your life.
We will all experience change and challenges in our lives. The many benefits of volunteering are as countless as the opportunities around you.
To get started, ask yourself:
- What cause is important to you?
- How much time do you have to give?
- Considering matching your interest and skills with the volunteer opportunity.
If you’re interested in donating your time to Penacook Place as a volunteer, let us know.
Enjoy yourself. Give.
