HAVERHILL – Penacook Place Nursing and Rehabilitation Center will honor the George C. Wadleigh Foundation and the Griffin-White Foundation with the 2008 Outstanding Service to Seniors Award, during its 4th Annual Awards Dinner and Silent Auction at the Haverhill Country Club on Saturday, March 15, at 6 p.m. Penacook has received funding from both foundations over the past several years, which has enabled the facility to enhance programs and upgrade equipment. “Thanks to these two organizations, Penacook has been able to improve the quality of life of our residents in ways that we would not have been able to afford otherwise,” said President & CEO Julian Rich. Some of the upgrades that the foundations have contributed to over the years include: - A new meal delivery system - An activity of daily living rehab station - New electric beds - An automatic defibrillator - Elevator renovation and a new emergency generator The George C. Wadleigh Foundation awards grants to organizations in the Haverhill area that benefit seniors. The Griffin-White Foundation was established in 2001, when the Griffin-White Home for the Elderly was closed and sold to the YMCA. Funds from the sale were turned into a charitable trust that helps elderly and disabled adults in Haverhill live more independent, dignified lives. “Penacook depends on the support it receives from these foundations, and the rest of the community, to continue to provide residents with a high quality of care,” said Rich, who noted that Penacook recently received a deficiency-free rating from the state Department of Public Health’s Division of Healthcare Quality. Businesses and individuals who wish to support Penacook’s continuing fundraising efforts may do so by becoming an event sponsor, donating a silent auction item, purchasing a ticket to the dinner and auction, or making a financial donation. Tickets are $40 per person. For more information, contact Karen Tarzia at 978-374-0707. Located at 150 Water St., the 160-bed Penacook Place is the only not-for-profit nursing and rehabilitation facility serving the city of Haverhill.
