Penacook residents have wishes granted through Tree of Dreams program

HAVERHILL – Penacook Place Nursing and Rehabilitation Center recently made dreams come true for two of its residents through its Tree of Dreams program.
Lorraine Baxter spent time golfing at the Bradford Country Club and Evelyn Thorton enjoyed a serenade of bagpipes and drums along with several of her fellow residents.
Baxter was an avid golfer when she was younger and she was one of the first women to be allowed to play at the Bradford Country Club. Baxter’s sister and niece joined her. The trio hit golf balls from the women’s tee and toured the course in a golf cart.
Thornton, who has traveled to Ireland and Scotland, wanted to experience her Irish heritage through music. So, she was treated to a bagpipe and drum performance by Clan McPherson. Her family members and about 40 fellow residents also enjoyed this special concert.
The Tree of Dreams program gives Penacook residents the opportunity to have their wishes come true. They are encouraged to explore their dreams and create wish lists. Other wishes that have been granted for residents include attending concerts, sporting events and enjoying special meals. Local businesses and individuals often help out with expenses associated with granting wishes. For example, Play It Again Sports in Plaistow, Clan McPherson, Central Wheelchair Van in Haverhill and the Bradford Country Club donated the services, time and equipment necessary to fulfill these dreams.
